Welcome …… Goofy Villagers
So, Rose, what is a Goofy Villager? Is it really a club? And what does the club do?
Yes, I get asked those questions by anyone who is passing through Rohan Rec Ctr on the first Monday evening of every month. Rose has managed membership, Waitlist, and Check-In for this club for the past nine years.
Let her provide you with a brief history. First, Rich Leopold (aka Mr. Goofy1) wanted to start this club of special villagers back in 2016 for the love of Disney and things related to Disney. In the club’s early years, various groups and/or Disney speakers were invited to entertain and inform our members.
As the years passed, the Events Committee was formed to plan our monthly meetings and feature a variety of entertainment. The club has hired local singers, singing groups, ventriloquists, and trivia and BINGO groups to entertain its members.
Our current events committee consists of Marki-Morison Gille and Peggy Cunningham. These two creative members have ingenious ways of decorating the tables that coincide with the entertainment for the monthly event. Members are always intrigued by how the tables will look and are pleasantly surprised.
A trip to our Facebook page reveals that our members enjoy engaging in a wide range of entertainment. The July 7th event was titled “Goofy’s – All Star Olympics.” Imagine several Olympic games and put the Goofy twist on it.
Let’s start with relay racing at a very slow pace, timed. Fencing was next, and Goofy’s version utilized pool noodles, but with the added safety feature of masks. Several teams competed. Next came shooting with Nerf guns, followed by equestrian jumping, basketball, soccer & last but not least was synchronized swimming. Yes, all of these were Goofy-style, and the competitors were awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals.
Our members love being involved and interacting, whether it’s with each other in competition or through activities like dancing —especially Line Dancing —singing, or simply attending monthly meetings to catch up with other members.
Our membership year runs from May 1 to April 30 of the following year. Since membership is now closed for 2025, our 2026 Wait List is now available. If you would like to join the waitlist, please visit our website at www.thegoofyvillagers.com and select the “Members” menu item. A dropdown list will appear; click on ‘Wait List’. Although our monthly meetings are for members, we may occasionally invite waitlist members if vacancies arise.
You know, you only go around once in life, so why not try the Goofy Style…The Goofy Villagers.
